Wind, Sun and the Hum of Asphalt

Right at lunch the sun shone bright, the air was mostly still and for the first time this year I found myself haunting the country and canyon roads of Cache County. There’s something significant about the first ride after a long winter. Sure, I’ve been out in the snow on the fat bike and I love snow biking. Though I’ve been blessed with many first time Spring rides, every year there’s something new, something special about the first ride of each year.

The Earth is just waking up and though the vegetation remains brown the new buds are just out of sight and renewed life is coming. I’m thrilled to be breathing the open air, feeling the breeze rush by on my face, hearing the hum of the wheels against the road and the echo of chain grinding against gear reflected off the rock on the canyon walls.
